Chocolate

There are many indulgences I am willing to give up to ensure I stick to my keto diet, but chocolate is a non-negotiable part of my weekly meal plan. The only way I am guaranteed to stick to any diet long term is if there is chocolate involved. Here are a few of my go-to options:

ChocKETO Dark Chocolate Coconut Snaps with Almonds and Sea Salt

These are small individually wrapped chocolate bars that are the perfect keto snack for on-the-go, at the office, or just lounging on the couch. There are 3g of net carbs, 15g of fat and 3g of protein for two individually wrapped squares. The almonds and coconut give them a crunch that makes them a satisfying snack.

Donini No Sugar Added Dark Chocolate Bar

I’m constantly craving a sweet bedtime snack. These Donini No Sugar Added Dark Chocolate Bars are my absolute favourite go-to chocolate bars. At 0g of net carbs, 14g of fat and 2g of protein for 3 squares they’re a great “cleanish” option for those of you who don’t mind occasionally eating a bit of artificial sweeteners. Best part is there’s two chocolate bars in each pack!

When I first started keto I had trouble getting rid of my sweet cravings, so I had a square or two of this chocolate almost every night with my ketorade for months. Just knowing that I was going to get a chocolately snack in the evening made it so much easier to keep myself on track during the day.

Baker’s Unsweetened Chocolate Baking Bar

A chocolate list wouldn’t be complete without an option for baking some chocolate cookies. I enjoy these Baker’s Unsweetened Chocolate bars. They’re a versatile option that’s great to keep stocked in your pantry for some unexpected baked goods. I use these to break up into chunks for cookies and also melt them down to use as a frosting for keto donuts. They’re 5g of net carbs, 15g of fat and 3g of protein for 1 square.

Although these baking bars are slightly higher in net carbs than many other no sugar baking chocolate options I like to keep these on hand for a couple of reasons. In my house these bars are reserved for special baked treats, it’s not something we eat regularly, so I don’t mind occasionally eating a carb or two more if it means that I am not eating additional artificial sweeteners. Also, I live in Canada, where this is the most readily available and affordable no sugar baking chocolate option that I can purchase at any of my local grocery stores. If I were to go with more common brands of keto friendly baking chocolates it would cost significantly more and I’d need to order them online and wait for them to get delivered.

Rodelle Baking Cocoa Powder

A chocolate lover’s home is not complete without a bag of cocoa powder in stock at all times. I like to use the Rodelle Organic Baking Cocoa from Costco. It’s great quality and you get a large bag of it for a decent price, so it’s only something we need to purchase once or twice a year. This brand has 0g of net carbs, 0.5g of fat and 1g of protein in each 1 Tablespoon. This is great to have on hand for those last minute microwave mug cakes. I’ve even used this to make some delicious peppermint mocha fat bomb coffees.
